The fact is, when planning your wedding, it’s hard to consider all the details yourself when you’re also the star of the wedding photos. It’s hard to expect costs, what to look for, or to honestly know what you like at the moment.

Looking at my wedding moments, one of my biggest regrets is my wedding photos.

I had no clue what I was looking for in my wedding photos, nor did I even consider asking for videography at the time either.

Photography packages prices anywhere from $2,000 – $10,000, but we opted for the cheapest photography option with the most coverage possible to save during the wedding planning process.

Understanding Cost Expectation for Wedding Photos

The first thing to understand is the standard cost for decent photography. When we were looking for a wedding photographer, we didn’t know what to expect.

Surveying numerous professionals, most start pricing at around $2,000 just for the photos alone, with one photographer covering the event. However, the cost will vary depending on location alongside experience levels.

Focus Less on Price More on Quality Wedding Photos

I regret my wedding photos because of what I’ve learned from studying the quality of other wedding photos, and at the time, I was so fixated on the price that I didn’t even consider the quality.

It’s tough to compare photos based solely on price because photographers can structure their prices so differently.

However, expect to invest in wedding photography for quality images that will last a lifetime so you can get excited to share with family and friends in person and on social media.

Breaking Down How Much To Pay For Wedding Photography

My preference for wedding photos now is that I’m not too fond of direct camera flash off the camera, and almost all of my wedding photos have the camera flash pointing directly at the subject.

When I think about our wedding day, the wedding photos were inside the wedding venue, and we didn’t allocate any time for any wedding shots in the natural daylight.

The flash of the camera body pointing in the direction of the subject of the photo can cause the lighting to look flat and show the light bouncing off the reflection of people’s glasses.

Bouncing the flash would have been better, but we probably required a lighting kit that would have allowed more manipulation of the light to our advantage in that wedding venue.

It’s Not Just The Wedding Day

The wedding photographer’s actual artistic ability doesn’t come from actually shooting on the wedding day but in the postproduction stage.

The photos you will receive may take up to 30 hours or more to edit and design to the right style and taste.

Hundreds of wedding photos require patience and a keen eye for detail. Editing and processing can include corrections in the skin, the lighting, and the wedding photo’s overall composition.

Overall, I’m disappointed about my lack of knowledge at the time and just trying to rush through the wedding planning process. However, that experience led me to seek ways to understand photography through an entirely new lens and pass that information along to you.
