Wedding Bouquets and Boutonnieres for a wedding party can cost you big bucks that maybe you could better use in other areas of your wedding.

The average Wedding Bouquet with traditional red roses can run you up to $100 or more, not to mention your wedding parties’ bouquets that will cost you $45 for each member at the very least.

When it comes to planning a wedding, I am a firm advocate in the phrase, “you get what you paid for.”

On the other hand, there are always minor exceptions. I think items such as centerpieces, catering, bartending, isle, and arch decor should be left to the professionals.

With that being said, there are jobs you can do yourself. Anything featured all day during your event should be done by someone who can deliver the best product.

I recommend small elements that only come into view briefly during your big day for DIY projects.

Bouquets and boutonnieres are a massive element in photos and tie your theme and color schemes. Even so, these things can be a do-it-yourself project.

Let’s walk through some simple steps to creating your bouquets and boutonnieres that will save you hundreds in the long run.

Wedding Bouquets

You will need some special tools when starting this DIY project.

Begin by purchasing green floral tape, floral scissors, vases or buckets, ribbons to match your color scheme, and ribbon scissors.

  1. First, start by deciding what types of flowers will complement your event. Take a trip down to your local florists and purchase all the flowers you will need. Make sure you have plenty of vases or buckets to keep your flowers soaking while designing your bouquet. It’s not a bad idea to find a design online that you want to try and recreate.

2. Clear out a workspace. This area should be clean and large enough to lay out the flowers while you decide how to bunch them together.

3. Start at the center by choosing the best flowers for your bridal bouquet. I recommend using one color flower first and arranging them in your hand. Add some greenery next to fill out the shape.

Florals can say a lot about your wedding’s ambiance, with each flower having a unique meaning and with many shades available.

4. Next, incorporate supplementary flowers with different colors and shapes of flowers. Try to fill in any missing spaces in your bouquet. You may want to have a bridge flower. This Flower will contain two colors or tones that tie in your central Flower to your supplementary flowers.

5. Once you are satisfied with your shape, lay your bouquet down and cut all your Flower stems into one length.

6. Take your floral tape and tightly wrap it around your bouquet. Next, measure and cut your ribbon with ribbon scissors to ensure no jagged edges on your ribbon.

7. Wrap your ribbon around your bouquet. You can leave long strings of ribbon hanging from the front or make a nice bow.

8. Lastly, you will want to place your bouquet back into a vase or bucket of water to make sure it stays fresh until it accompanies you down the aisle.

Don’t forget your honored men whose matching boutonnieres can be about $15 each.

Let’s walk through some steps on setting up Boutonnieres.

Boutonnieres

You will need a corsage pin, ribbon, ribbon scissors, floral scissors, and flowers. Typically a boutonniere features one central Flower and one additional green element.

  1. Start by cutting your Flower down, leaving about an inch and a half of the stem still attached.
  2. Layer your central Flower on top of your green floral piece securing the two together with a ribbon wrapped tightly around the two.
  3. Attach to each groomsman’s suit by piercing through the flower stem with a corsage pin.
